I am going to be honest here and say that this is more of a “My Kids ♥” scenario, than I do. As most my friends and family know I am terrified of cats due to unfortunate experience while babysitting a family with a cat who had a brain tumor. It ended rather badly. For me.  It will likely come as a surprise to them that I entered not only a facility that rescues cats, but the little rooms that housed 8-12 of them in a small space. Living dangerously, that’s me.

Rational (or not) fears aside, when my kids asked to visit the kitties at Happy Tails on adoption day I said ok, because I may be a fraidy cat (har har) but I’m no jerk and Happy Tails does a good thing for Sacramento’s homeless cat population. The kids loved visiting the cats and Charlotte only asked once or twice if she could take home a “little kitty”. We all know what the answer was.

This kitty needs a home! He sat perched just waiting for the door to open so he could dart out. He had the prettiest coat, too. You can see him in the background of the next picture ready for “freeeeeedom!”

Charlotte was in heaven and tried to pet every cat who strutted past her, and Lily cautiously pet a few of them, but Tyler was content with just looking. All three kids wanted to come back, so we may make it a regular thing to come visit the animals since we won’t be adopting a pet any time soon (Famous last words, right?).

066

This cat was super shy whenever someone entered her enclosure, but the moment the kids walked by she batted the glass, ready to play. Lily was completely enchanted by her.

This room housed the older “grumpier” cats and we were advised not to visit with them, as they have a tendency to scratch. No need to tell me twice!

Cats and some dogs can be adopted through Happy Tails anytime. Their adoption page on the website has all the info you’ll need to bring home a new member of the family. If you decide to adopt a pet please let me know!!

  1. Please come and visit again, I am a volunteer at Happy Tails and it is great to see families visit our cats. I was delighted to see your daughter with our Layla. I am very sorry that you had to experience the brain tumor incident, that can be terribly horrifying, and the effects on the humans can be long-lasting, but the effects of a happy cat being a loved member of a family can have long-lasting effects also.
Thank you for sharing your time at Happy Tails.
