Especially, "The Year of Living Biblically."

And if you haven't already read Paul Tripp's "Instruments in the Redemeer's Hands," it is a must read!

In the guilty pleasure teenage girl category I highly recomeend the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson Series by Louise Rennison.

Alas I am bogged down in boring dry history books for school, but I can't wait until I graduate and can read for pleasure again! Until then I will live through you :)Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10244476563353255799noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1564737922211232121.post-20885317613325509912012-10-02T19:22:57.385-07:002012-10-02T19:22:57.385-07:00Bel Canto by Ann PatchettBel Canto by Ann PatchettLauraKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12592353267304087555noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1564737922211232121.post-15570829498258228172012-10-01T08:32:36.384-07:002012-10-01T08:32:36.384-07:00Oh, one of my favorite topics. Are you on Goodread...Oh, one of my favorite topics. Are you on Goodreads? Lately that's where I'm getting all my book recs and based on a few of my goodreads friends I've fallen down a rabbit hole of total smut reading :) Knowing you that might not be your thing but I also just read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me so our taste can't be too different.

A few recent reads:
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (mystery, historic, young girl protagonist, light reading)

Have you read Graceling (and the related books Fire and Bitterblue?) Start with Graceling--super good teen lit.

If you like embarrassingly lame but very addictive readable teen romance/fantasy/crap try the Trylle series by Amanda Hocking.

If you like historic fiction/fantasy try Blackout and All Clear by Willis

I'm looking at my goodreads list and really, i'm mostly reading crap but I've gotten into audiobooks (free downloads to the iphone from the library!) in addition to my kindle. I'm liking non fiction on audio and currently listening to Change your Thoughts, Change your Life by W Dyer. Long but thought provoking.

Ok, I'll stop :) Melissa Haworthhttp://underconstructiondaily.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1564737922211232121.post-86214882396250344482012-09-30T12:42:40.088-07:002012-09-30T12:42:40.088-07:00I am currently reading Love in the Time of Cholera...I am currently reading Love in the Time of Cholera. How...Um, did you just ask for book recommendations? How long do you want this list to be?

Since you mentioned classics and seem perhaps an Anglophile, I just read Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations." It really is a page turner.

The most interesting book I read this summer was Alexandra Fuller's "Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness" a memoir about growing up Scottish in Central Africa, both humorous and poignant and exceptionally well written.

The other two books that I read recently pertain to the dilemma between "real books" and ebooks. I recommend both: Sven Birkerts' "Gutenberg Elegies" (extrememly prescient on the fate of reading in an electronic age written in the early 1990s). And also "The Shallows: What the Internet is doing to our Brains" by Nicholar Carr. Your brain on the internet: super scary!
